Unsung Collective is a product of several female theatre-makers from Leeds coming together to create a piece of theatre that explored the stories of brilliant women from British history: our inaugural production, 'Unsung'. The team works together to to create theatre that tells the stories of unsung women - from those whose stories have been forgotten by history, to those whose stories are unfolding now.
Producer: Alice Barber
Alice is a Yorkshire-based theatre producer with a passion for female-focussed projects. She is Associate Producer at Red Ladder Theatre Company as well as Creative Producer at Front Room Productions, where credits include: 'We Are Outlaws: The Leeds Suffragette Story' at Leeds Civic Hall (commissioned by Leeds City Council), 'Twelfth Night' at Temple Newsam Estate, 'Hurry Up, Jess' (Regional Tour), and 'A Christmas Carol' (Regional Tour). She was formerly Producer at Knaive Theatre, having produced the national tour of 'Bin Laden: The One Man Show' and 'War with the Newts' (Summerhall, Royal Exchange Theatre, Theatr Clwyd), and trained with Slung Low Theatre Company.
Director: Elvi Piper
Elvi Piper is a Leeds-based theatre director and dramaturg. She is Artistic Director of family theatre company Wrongsemble, alongside working as a freelance director and facilitator for some of the country’s most prolific producing theatres (Leeds Playhouse, RSC, National Theatre). She was recently Associate Director for The National Theatre on the new schools’ adaptation of 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time' and other recent directing credits include 'The Selfish Giant' (Wrongsemble, 2018), 'A Scarborough Tale' (Stephen Joseph Theatre/ Sleeping Dogs Theatre, 2018), 'The Alia Chronicles' (Wrongsemble for Bradford Literature Festival, 2018).
Writer: Lisa Holdsworth
Lisa Holdsworth is an award-winning writer based in Leeds. She won her first TV commission in 2001 on 'Fat Friends', and since then she has written for 'Waterloo Road', 'Emmerdale', 'New Tricks', 'Midsomer Murders', 'Ackley Bridge' and 'Call The Midwife'. For theatre, she has written 'Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile', the life-story of Andrea Dunbar, which is to be staged with Freedom Studios in Bradford in 2019, alongside having written 'Rugby Songs' for Slung Low, and short theatre pieces for JB Shorts, Leeds Pub Theatre and Slung Low Shorts.
Other Collective Members include:
